The Leading Care Company and the TLC team who organise everything from our head office, plus all of our carers who are helping our clients and supporting their families every day.
I have 24 years experience in healthcare settings having qualified as an optometrist in 2000. I founded the company upon a desire to use my experience in care, professional clinical settings and domestic work to grow a brilliant team to make a true difference in care and in our community. Having carried out domiciliary care for a number of years as an optometrist I wanted to set a new standard in home care.
Abi used to work in customer service, but after seeing the compassion and care from staff looking after her mum who has early onset dementia, she decided to become a care worker.
After starting as a care assistant for a care company, she excelled and became the training manager, before. becoming a registered manager responsible for the operational day-today management of the service.
Abi said: “I wanted to make a difference, and hopefully I have done that with the support of such a great, compassionate, caring, and dedicated team. I have been extremely fortunate within the industry and would advise anyone who wants a change or wants to make even the smallest difference to someone’s life; this is the industry to be in. It’s by far the most rewarding job I have ever had.”
Working for TLC has been life changing, I could not have chosen a better more supportive company to work for.
I have worked in care since 1997. I started working as a support worker while training to become a qualified learning disabilities nurse. Once qualified I took up a nursing post working with children who had complex medical needs until I left in 2019 to join The Leading Care Company. I initially joined TLC as a community supervisor and progressed to become the Assistant Manager. During this time I have had the opportunity to work closely with others from the care sector and develop connections that I am still in contact with and am able to access to support clients when required.
I made the decision to leave the NHS and join The Leading Care Company to give myself a new challenge and have been made to feel welcome from the start. I have been supported by everyone at TLC to transfer the skills I already had from my time nursing and to develop ways to use them in the community setting, as well as continue to develop them further. I believe that I have developed since joining TLC and do not regret the decision I made in any way all those years ago.
I have been in care for over 8 years now, I choose to work in care as it was very flexible around my family, I was also massively influenced by my mum who also worked in care and would come home smiling after her shifts, she really seemed to enjoy her role as a care worker. 8 years later and I have carved out a career for myself within the industry, starting as a care worker, moving on to a more senior role, becoming a coordinator and finally the quality and compliance manager, I have enjoyed every aspect of my various roles, it has enabled me to have an understanding of every angle of the care industry.
I choose TLC as I knew from my very first interview that this was the right place for me to continue my career, everyone was welcoming and friendly. I believe I can add to this great team and really make a difference too the lives of our clients that we support.
I have over 9 years experience in health and social care, this ranges from experiences in different care facilities including day centres, residential home care and domiciliary home care. I have a passion to deliver and train staff with exceptional care to all.
I first found my passion as a care worker in 2019 part time, doing companionship care for an elderly lady aged 85, and I had never felt so much joy and pride whilst working. I then later enhanced my career starting at The Leading Care Company, doing domicilary care. I will never forget what an eye opener my first shadowing shift was seeing the care that was involved and how much vulnerable people needed me and other carers. I had never been happier in my job knowing I can make a difference to people’s lives bringing them comfort, peace and happiness. As a Christian I believe in loving everyone as Jesus loves us.
I then advanced and started working as a training manager for maternity cover. I feel honoured to be able to meet and train new care workers and support them in their role helping others. I have developed and learned a great deal since starting at The Leading Care company with the support of the friendly office team and look forward continuously learning and growing whilst teaching others.
I first established my passion for care when my grandmother became ill and I was looking after her. Whilst looking after her, I was also working as a Care and Support worker with other care companies and eventually progressed to be part of the office team which allowed me to develop my skills and knowledge and how everything is dealt with internally. In addition, my degree in Psychology enables me to understand the different situations faced by clients that we support when out in the community doing calls as well as building a relationship with them to ensure that they are always receiving high quality personalised care. I enjoy working with The Leading Care Company as there are a lot of progression opportunities available and the team are very friendly and supportive. In addition, with my role as a Recruitment Manager, I am able to socialise and meet different individuals each day ensuring that the right candidates are selected to come on board to join our team.
I used to work in retail before joining TLC four years ago, this was a massive change in career for me however being part of a care company felt right, I enjoy helping people and making a difference.
I choose to work for TLC for a change, for better opportunities, flexibility most importantly it fits in with future plans and goals. This is a great place to come if you would like to progress, challenge yourself and really feel part of a team then TLC is the perfect place of work.
